The Monastery of St.
Jeremiah
Saqqara, near the Pyramid of Sekhemkhet
30 km Southwest of Central Cairo
The remains of the Monastery of St. Jeremiah
are located to the east of the pyramid of Sekhemkhet
in Saqqara. The monastery was founded during the 5th
century and was destroyed 5 centuries later. The
monastery was discovered in 1907 and many of
the items uncovered where moved to the Coptic Museum
in Cairo.
A tour of the remains of the monastery should
be planned as part of the Memphis & Saqqara tour.
